The film introduces us to Blade, a daywalking human-vampire hybrid vampire hunter. A flashback reveals that he was born in 1967 after his mother had been bitten by a vampire, which forced her to go into labor and caused her death. Flash forward to the present time, a female vampire named Racquel takes a human to a rave club, totally unaware that everyone in the club is a vampire, he realizes this when blood starts to shower down from the sprinkler system. Blade then enters the clubs and starts killing many of the vampires there, save for Quinn, who burns him and tells him "give my regards to Frost". Quinn later wakes up at the morgue and attacks the examining doctors. One of them, Dr. Karen Jenson escapes and runs into Blade, who had suspected that Quinn would survive. Quinn escapes and Blade takes the bitten Karen to his base of operations. There, Karen meets Abraham Whistler, Blade's aging mentor and weapons technician, who explains to her Blade's mission, the nature of vampires and their clandestine power in society.
