讲述的是7位魔术师为了争夺圣杯，招唤出各自的使魔（英灵）进行战斗的故事。这场战争被称为“圣杯战争”。圣杯之战：大约是在两百多年前在冬木市中开始，不断重复上演的一场巨大的仪式，创造出圣杯之战争这个仪式中的三大家族原本的目的只是想要将利用召唤来的 “英灵”们的灵魂来固定其回归圣杯之座时所产生的空间传送之门，以方便移动到其它地方去，所以就战斗本身来说是没有必要的，但为了隐瞒这件事情的真正目的，他们想方设法吸引魔术师 (MASTER)前来参加，并利用战斗的手段作为一种宣传，最后就演变成所谓的圣杯之战，也就成了七组魔术师 (MASTER)与使魔 (SERVANT)之间的竞赛，目的就是要排除掉其他六组的人，以获得能够实现任何愿望的圣杯，想要拿到圣杯的办法只有一个－就是为了证明自己有那个实力而必须打倒其他的魔术师 (MASTER)，且战斗到至剩最后一个人时就可以向圣盃显示自己的强大，7位使魔(SERVANT)与自己的主人为了实现各自的愿望，把性命赌上战场，而他们到底又是为了什么而战呢......
