伟大航路上刮起了暴风雨，路飞一行在即将沉没的海盗船上发现了一个巨大宝箱，兴奋的打开一看，里面不是金银财宝，只有一个镶着金牙的老婆婆。其实老婆婆是被别的海贼抓住，眼见船将沉没所以才躲进了箱子，为了从她那里得到传说中的宝物——黄金之冠，众人接受了护送她回岛的任务，路飞等人向老婆婆居住的小岛出发了。小岛就在眼前，不知从哪里传来了歌声，“海之王、黄金之冠～”的岛歌令众人对宝物更加无限期待。原来小岛是一座机械岛，岛上的建筑叫做卡拉克里城，然而老婆婆的儿子拉其特，也就是机械岛的领主误以为路飞等人是绑架了母亲的海盗，不听任何解释而强行将老婆婆带回了家，并且以岛上的机械防卫体系向海贼们开战。经过一番交手，双方总算冰释前嫌，机械岛领主还盛宴招待了他们。路飞等人为了寻找黄金王冠开始在岛上寻宝，并且找出了隐藏在岛歌中的关于宝藏的秘密，机械岛领主和他的手下有意联手合作，于是双方踏上寻宝之路。可是，岛上各种意想不到的机关圈套和巨大的机械巨兵正等待着海贼们，而所谓的黄金王冠也超出了路飞的想象，惊天动地的卡拉克里机械巨兵向他们发起了进攻。
