When I first heard of this movie, I thought it a somewhat vague Anime title. I heard my peers say that I must see it. I am the kind of person that does not rent movies. I buy them. And so the 30$ price tag for dubbed repelled me at first. Then, finally I bought it. I will never regret it. Before I saw this movie, I thought that America was the "good guy" in World War 2. I didnt think of the suffering the war wreaked upon the Japanese civilians. After seeing this movie my whole idealistic war ideas were shattered like glass. The character development in this movie is top rate. The viewer gets very attached to Seita and Setsuko (The two main characters), and the tragic ending has had an emotional impact on me that has not been matched by ANY movie yet. If someone says that World War 2 was great, or that Anime is all sex and violence, sit them down to watch this movie. It will not only change their minds, but their viewpoint on human nature. It has changed mine. This movie is emotionally devastating to watch, but all the same it must be watched. There is NO movie I have seen that has the same impact as this. No live action movie could possibly compare to this. This movie should be required viewing for every man woman and child on earth. Then, maybe, the whole world would understand the message devastation caused by war, as delivered by these two tragic messengers
