Cinema of Vengance isn't bad, although Jet Li, one of the top martial artists in Hong Kong Cinema is never mentioned in the film, probably due to the fact that much of COV is heavily influenced (and produced, if I remember correctly) by Raymond Chow's Golden Harvest Prod., and Li successfully sued GH for lack of payment (The Chinese don't consider it improper to carry a grudge). Other than that, it's pretty good, although the Top Fighter films are much better. Top Fighter comes in two parts, the first about the men in martial arts flims (including Jet Li), the second, and the much better done of the two, contains the ladies of the club. The first TF also contains some grainy but very good footage of Bruce Lee doing chi siao at Ed Parkers Kenpo tournament in the early 60s. (Blockbuster and Hollywood Video carry both of them). Remember that Top Fighter and Cinema of Vengance are both more than a little out of date, but still, COV is worth watching, although some of the scenes they show will only scare away those people who are looking at Hong Kong Cinema for the first time (when COV talks about the Ninja, ouch, that was embarassing to watch). So COV gets 3 stars for me, because of no Jet Li, although the rest of the mainstream stars like Sammo and Jackie get their due (who, unlike Jet Li, happen to have had happier relations with Golden Harvest).
