Winner of the Palme d'Or at the 1997 Cannes Film Festval, Iranian auteur Abbas Kiarostami's Taste of Cherry is an emotionally complex meditation on life and death. Middle-aged Mr. Badii (Homayoun Ershadi) drives through the hilly outskirts of Tehran-searching for someone to rescue or bury him. 一个伊朗男人巴迪对生活感到了厌倦，准备自杀，但自杀在宗教上是被禁止的。他在一棵樱桃树下挖了一个坑，然后开着车在德黑兰效外转悠，寻找一个能在他死后帮忙掩埋尸体的好心人。他分别遇到了阿富汗人、库德人、土耳其人、囚犯、士兵、神学院的学生和博物馆的工作人员。但他们都由于种种原因拒绝了他，有的因为恐惧，有的出于宗教上的顾忌，有的则基于人道主义上的考虑。到最后巴迪也没有死成，晚上，他独自躺在大伞一样的樱桃树下，仰望着茫茫夜空，渐渐露出了平静的微笑。
该片是伊朗大导演阿巴斯电影生涯的顶峰之作，洋溢着无与伦比的诗歌情怀和哲学思考。它虽以自杀为主线，却并不是为了表现厌世，片中每一个拒绝埋葬巴迪的人都代表着一种活下去的理由。
