本片是漫画式的幻想武侠片，由王晶编剧，黄泰来导演，描写广告公司职员刘德华与陈百祥，在前往大陆公乾时无意中发现一个秘洞，取得元朝秘笈，解救了冷封多年的元朝公主王祖贤和梅小惠，同时也释放了邪派高手元华。刘与陈带了王与梅回香港，本以为她们不能适应现代生活，不料公主聪明过人，竟精通多国语言，并教刘学成秘笈中的如来神掌。此时，暗恋公主的元华追到刘家，与刘展开了一连串的生死斗。本片借鉴多部西片和粤语片的桥段，再加上港式漫画动作喜剧的包装，娱乐性颇为丰富，是纯粹消闲之作。

武德辉与厉藉赴大陆公乾而走私出土文物，被解放军追捕并堕下山崖，误入一元朝秘笈，又救了被天蚕网冷藏二百年之元朝云萝公主及侍俾小蛮，但亦撞释放了二百年前天下第一邪派高手天残。二人带走云萝及小蛮。云萝绝世聪明，回港后迅速精通多国语言，成为时代女性，且助辉学成如来神掌。迟则资质关系，只练成较次的“七旋斩”。他们被天残找到，因辉没法练成第九式“万佛朝宗”，不敌天残，被废去全身武功。辉迟终被云萝公主及“特异功能团”另一异人严真所救。云萝以“玉女心经”救辉，为他疗伤，严真更授以吸收天地能量术，练成“万佛朝宗”。辉发挥“万佛朝宗”之威力，废去天残武功，成为真正大侠。
