Though sharing the same title as Burning Flame 1, Burning Flame 2 turns out more a brand new series rather than a sequel to Burning Flame 1, ,featuring a new cast playing new characters. The story still follows the day-to-day lives and responsibilities of firefighters and how they risk their lives to save the lives of others. The drama focuses on the fire-fighting heroes' contradictions between career and family, and every fireman has his own touching story behind his glamorous life.
Burning Flame 2 gathers popular TV actors and actresses in Hong Kong including Wong Hei, Maggie Cheung Ho Yee, Kevin Cheng, Alex Fong Chun Shun, Flora Chan, etc. Apart from complicated romance relationships among the characters, the father-daughter relationship between Wong Hei and the gifted yound actress Jenny Shing who plays her daughter probably impress the audience the most. Their marvelous performances and excellent chemistries won both of them the "My Favourite Character" awards, presented at TVB's Anniversary Show in 2002. Supporting cast's excellent performances have truly lit up the whole series. The strong cast, the wonderful love stories, the compelling story, and the shocking ending all contributed in making Burning Flame 2 an unforgettable TV series. 以烈火浓烟磨练一己意志以无私精神拯救人生命人生的路途崎岖不平，谁不曾跌倒？救火救人的消防及救护人员也不例外。纪德田加入当了消防员多年，也不曾升职，表面上，消防员对德田来说，只是一份工作。平日的德田，凡事不认真，常爱打侃嬉笑波日，其实的德田毅力非凡，应变能力极高，只是从不外露，也不争功，这与他的背景有极大关系。德田早婚，妻子却在数年前因一宗车祸意外去世，遗下幼女(纪莹)。德田独力抚育纪莹....在一次游轮大火之中，德田负责搜索的范围内出现意外，因此受到上司唐明的责难。德田虽知此乃意外，但心中有愧，自觉拯救生命压力极大，顿起了逃避之心，主动要求调往潜水队。可是世事往往难以预料，德田在潜水队中过了一段短时期，又被调回陆上消防局，又再重遇要求严格的唐明。德田面对唐明的严苛，以为唐明处处针对自己，但未几，在一次救火行动中，唐明竟然甘愿冒生命危险，救了德田，由此令德田明白到唐明一向以来，对下属的严格要求，也是唐明对自己的要求。从这刻开始，德田的工作态度转趋积极，令周遭的人也登时另眼相看。德田有一弟弟纪兴田，性格与德田大相径庭。兴田天生好胜，自小无论学业、运动均成绩彪炳，大学毕业后，考进消防队当起消防队长。当一个消防员对兴田来说，只能够满足一己的英雄感，因此兴田甫出班便力求表现，要成为消防队中的明星。德田对兴田的出色表现，没有妒忌，反而引以为傲。而兴田一直觉得大哥德田是个得过且过的人。然而，当德田受唐明启发后，态度和表现大有跃步，更赢得同袍和上司的赞赏；兴田遂对这个大哥产生从未有过的妒忌，兴田更决意在工作里努力向上，争功求名。
