Many screen versions have been made of this classic Chinese love story, but auteur Li Han-hsiang's version is the most popular of them all. Yen Chuan plays the weak emperor, whose obsession with his consort, Yang Kwei Fei (played by the ever-elegant and ever-sensual Li Li-hua) makes him leaves the running of the country to his Prime Minister (Yang Chi-ching), who happens to be Yang Kwei Fei's brother. 后安史之乱，唐玄宗逃离长安，途至马嵬坡，六军不肯前行，说是因为杨国忠(贵妃之堂兄)通于胡人，而致有安禄山之反，玄宗为息军心，乃杀杨国忠。六军又不肯前行，谓杨国忠为贵妃堂兄，堂兄有罪，堂妹亦难免，贵妃亦被缢死于路祠。安史治乱与杨贵妃无关，她成了唐玄宗的替罪羔羊。

杨玉环（公元719－756年）：唐代宫廷音乐家、歌舞家，其音乐才华在历代后妃中鲜见。开元七年719年农历六月初一生于容州（今广西玉林容县），出身宦门世家，曾祖父杨汪是隋朝的上柱国、吏部尚书，唐初被李世民所杀，父杨玄琰，是蜀州司户，叔父杨玄珪曾任河南府土曹，杨玉环的童年是在四川度过的，10岁左右，父亲去世，她寄养在洛阳的三叔杨玄珪家。
